This 1-1⁄2 yard circumference electric motorized skein winder (aka hank winder or skeiner) has ball bearing movement for smooth motion. The winder is constructed of industrial grade solid birch plywood and maple hardwood. This makes this winder very solid and heavy. The large rubber feet keep the winder firmly in place upon your table. Spinning at 300 rpm this skein winder can wind up to 500 yards of yarn in just one minute.

This is a motorized yarn winder, with a variable speed knob control. The control has it's own separate housing with a 3½ foot cord so it can be positioned on either side of the winder to suit your specific situation. The control can even be held in the hand while winding. The base has a 5½ foot power cord.

Instead of a flimsy stretchy drive band, our skeiner uses an industrial grade v-belt. This prevents the drive from slipping, which can cause uneven yarn tension. Consistent tension is important for hand dyers who wish their yarn to have consistent color repeats as well as producing a more presentable skein for display and sale.

Using the ergonomic plastic knobs the arms can be adjusted to produce skeins of varying circumferences. This skeinwinder is adjustable from 36 inches (1 yard) up to 61 inches (almost 1¾ yards). The arms have markings burned into the wood, for 1 yard and 1½ yards.

The curved fingers and heavy gauge stainless steel yarn guide keep your skein compact and tight, and saves your hands from painful yarn burn. The starting clip holds the end of your yarn while you start winding. No need to tie the yarn to the arm.

Our electric skein winders are available in either single or triple skein configurations. For an additional $20 the triple skein model can wind up to three skeins at once. When winding two or three skeins simultaneously it is recommended to wind from cones.

Note that our skein winders do not include revolution counters. We feel that an actual yardage (or footage) counter is more reliable and produces more accurate results. We will be offering an electronic digital counter at an affordable price in the near future. In the meantime very nice yardage counters are available from Schacht, Leclerc, Nancy's Knit Knacks, and Babe's Fiber Garden.
